Mission:

To impact Global Health through Innovation, Evidence, Implementation, and Integration.

A People at Higher Risk-Led MPOWERMENT MODEL

Mpowerment Project is an efficacious multi-level HIV prevention intervention that works at the level of the community and addresses individual, interpersonal, social, and structural issues related to HIV prevention developed by Professor Susan M. Kegeles. The clinic teams are supported by community core groups in their management and Mpowerment coordination of the POP INN programme. The need for a safe space is critical to providing healthcare services. The site teams support the community in organizing activities to promote communal development and growth. Activities include pride parades, social evenings, support groups for stigma and violence and HIV prevention campaigns.

Key Populations

Aurum Pop Inn is a Key Populations programme that aims to reduce HIV incidence and mitigate the impact of HIV among Key Populations across South Africa.

POP INN clinics have been established in all districts, providing comprehensive HIV care and treatment, TB and sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening, post-violence care, and sexual reproductive health (SRH), along with behavioural and psychosocial services.

The project delivers a comprehensive package of HIV Care and Treatment Services for PAHR in South Africa under PEPFAR. It includes interventions across the entire continuum of HIV and related services, building on and expanding successful HIV testing, and treatment services.

Innovations introduced include tailored complementary services and multi-disciplinary responses to address treatment drop-offs and barriers in the HIV treatment cascade. The project aims to strengthen the national HIV response by deepening partnerships with and strengthening the Department of Health (DoH) PAHR program, community-based organizations (CBOs), and PAHR communities. Additionally, it will enhance data quality and usage to support responsive local programming.
